Life’s daily problems often frustrate us, such that we get angry or irritated at times but it need not be this way. The reason that we feel this way is because we resist the events and things that come into our life. One way we can have peace of mind is to accept what is happening and then cope with it. Some people regard this behaviour as “going with the flow”. When we began to accept our circumstances and react accordingly, we will experience peace of mind.
And a good strategy to use will be to respond to any happenings to our life with “Of course it will be this way, because……”
At first glance, some of us might feel that this might not be a good idea. After all, saying “of course it will be this way” seems to suggest that we are not doing much to change things in our life. However, it’s important to realise that we can only change things such as our feelings, thoughts and emotions. However, we cannot change external circumstances and events in our life (Just think about the fact that your friends decide to surprise you with a birthday party. How do you go about changing that?). So, the first thing we should do is to accept the situation. Only with acceptance can we achieve peace of mind and happiness. Hence, the phrase “of course it will be this way”.
Although this is the case, we cannot leave the situation as it is because we often need do something about it. For instance, you forget your sibling’s birthday. Or you forget to attend your friend’s housewarming party. Are you going to say “Of course it will be this way” and leave it as that? Probably not. So what can we do about it? We need to examine the reasons behind it. Hence the statement “of course it will be this way, because….”. We need to know the reasons so that we can go about improving the situation. Maybe giving a birthday card to your sibling and giving a gift to your friend after the housewarming party will make things a little better?
The statement “Of course it will be this way, because” is very useful because it allows us to examine the present situation in our lives, to question about the reasons for being so and to think of ways to improve the situation.
You can see if it works for you. I hope that it does.
