Most of us read books and forget about the content after a while. This is normal, since we do not relate to most of the things that are described in the book. This is especially so for fictional stories, whereby our existence falls outside the world of the lead characters. The next time that you start reading a book, I will like you to examine the things that the lead characters have been through and try to relate it to your own personal life experiences. Are there any similarities? Are there any lessons that you can draw from the stories?
There are always lessons to be learnt from stories, Aesop’s fables being one of the most popular classic stories ever compiled. So, the challenge is not in the reading but the transition to the applications of the lessons (within the stories) to our lives. Or you might like to call it “self-reflection”, a term that you are probably more familiar with.
And personally, I feel that it’s not how much you read that makes you a better person.
It’s how much you self-reflect that makes all the difference.
